Custom Aquamarine Pear-Shaped Ring

Client Inspiration

During my annual trip to the Tucson Gem Show in February 2024, one of the largest gemstone shows in the United States, our dear client Lan reached out. She had seen my post about planning the trip and asked if I could find something special for her.

Having created many beautiful pieces for Lan before, I knew her skin tone and style. She often gravitates toward blue and green gems, and she likes jewelry that is easy to wear for daily life. With that in mind, I started the search for an aquamarine that would suit her perfectly.

Gemstone Discovery at Tucson

The Tucson Gem Show is filled with rare finds from around the world, but one gem immediately stood out: a 4.34 carat pear-shaped natural aquamarine. The cutting was exceptional, giving the crystal a deep blue color and filling it with sparkle.

I texted Lan right away to share photos and videos of the stone, hoping she could see even a glimpse of how beautiful it was in person. She fell in love instantly, and together we made the decision — right there at the show — to acquire this rare aquamarine for her ring.

Design Journey

Back in the studio, Lan wanted something clean and timeless, with a setting she could wear every day. Platinum was the natural choice — strong, elegant, and perfect for highlighting the aquamarine’s brilliance.

To complement the pear-shaped 4.34 ct aquamarine, we designed three diamonds on each side — a mix of pear and marquise shapes. These echoed the geometry of the center stone’s cut, creating harmony and flow while adding subtle sparkle.

Craftsmanship Process

In the studio, we carefully brought the design to life. The platinum setting was shaped and polished to set the 4.34 ct aquamarine securely while keeping the look light and elegant. The side diamonds — pears and marquises — were positioned to echo the lines of the center stone, creating balance and flow.

The Final Result

The finished ring highlights the aquamarine’s vivid ocean-blue hue, brought to life by the sparkle of the side diamonds. The clean platinum design frames the gem with quiet elegance, allowing its brilliance and color to shine without distraction.

We are so grateful to Lan for her trust and for allowing us to be part of this journey — from the gem show discovery to the creation of her finished ring.
