A Modern Heirloom Inspired by the Victorian Era

A Modern Heirloom Inspired by the Victorian Era

Victorian five-stone rings have always fascinated me. Their graceful scrolling shoulders, carved galleries, and beautifully graduated gemstones possess a romance that never goes out of style.

Our client shared that passion. She had spent years searching for an authentic Victorian five-stone ring in her size, but without success. Fine examples have become increasingly rare, and those that remain are often heavily worn after more than a century of daily use. Instead of settling for a compromised antique, we decided to create a new ring that honored the elegance of the originals while offering the durability of a modern heirloom.

Sourcing Antique Diamonds

To remain true to the spirit of Victorian jewelry, I carefully sourced a matching suite of recycled old mine-cut diamonds. Finding five antique diamonds with harmonious proportions, color, and character is no easy task. Hand cut more than a century ago, each diamond has its own unique personality. Their soft glow and broad flashes of light simply cannot be replicated by modern-cut diamonds.

From Design to Reality

After refining the design, we created a detailed CAD model, allowing our client to review every detail—from the vintage-inspired gallery and scrolling shoulders to the proportions of the old mine-cut diamonds—before we began handcrafting the ring.

Once the design was approved, we 3D printed a prototype and carefully checked the fit of every diamond. This extra step allowed us to refine the proportions and ensure everything was perfect before casting the ring in 18k gold.

A Ring to Wear Every Day

Our client was delighted with the finished ring and has worn it almost every day since receiving it. Soon afterward, she commissioned a second ring in the same Victorian-inspired style, this time featuring a pair of exceptional Jedi spinels that we sourced for her at the Tucson Gem Show. Their vivid neon-red color brings a fresh, contemporary energy to this timeless design, creating another modern heirloom that celebrates both history and innovation.

Every custom commission is unique, but they all begin the same way—with a conversation. It is always an honor to transform a client's story into a piece of jewelry that will be worn, loved, and passed down for generations.
